Discovering our country means breathing freedom and adrenaline as we travel along some of the most beautiful motorcycle routes in the world: landscapes, nature, history, and good food.
Every biker knows how to find the best routes to showcase their riding style and the characteristics of their motorcycle.
All you need is a navigation system (or one of the main dedicated apps), browse the map, and choose the most winding and scenic roads.
Today we want to take you to some wonderful places, with a few ideas on what to see, what to eat, and how to best enjoy your summer vacation on a motorcycle.
Whether you choose organized motorcycle tours or solo trips, safety should always be a priority!
Check-list:
→ Tire pressure
→ Lights and indicators in general
→ Maintenance (checking screws, chain, brake pads, brakes, etc.)
The must-have for motorcyclists:
→ Wrenches, screwdrivers, grease, fuses, etc.
→ Tire repair kit or CO2 tire repair kit
→ Mini emergency starter
→ First Aid Kit
To tackle long motorcycle trips, tires must be new or in optimal condition. It is extremely important to have tires that are safe in all conditions so as not to compromise safety, performance, and riding comfort.
Don't miss out on the best motorcycle tires for your vacation: you can find them here.
It is essential to choose tires based on the type of motorcycle and the trip you intend to take. Always opt for durable tires with optimal drainage, excellent grip when cornering, and high performance during sudden storms.
A sport touring tire is ideal for road trips, with luggage and a passenger. It guarantees safety in wet conditions, stability, and mileage.
If you plan to go off-road, you will need a knobby tread pattern that also has excellent grip on asphalt. For the nature trails we will be traveling on, choose durable, long-lasting on/off-road tires.
We will be happy to help you choose the best tire for you.

Now let's set off to discover the beauty of Italy by motorbike.
Average distance 600 km

Begin a tour of the Lombardy lakes, which will take us to the Piedmont border of Lake Maggiore, and on to the Veneto border at Lake Garda.
A route that will amaze you with its beautiful landscapes, from winding tracks accompanied by the reflection of lakes to winding mountain roads.
For these summer motorcycle holidays, we set off from Arona and head up towards Stresa, which is pure poetry: the motorcycle glides along with the spectacle of the Borromean Islands suspended above the water.
FOOD AND WINE RECOMMENDATION
In Campino, La Rampolina restaurant will treat us to typical, tasty dishes while we admire the lake from the huge windows or the beautiful panoramic terrace.
Refined cuisine, affordable prices, and a good selection of wines will delight every motorcyclist.
Recommended detour: a drive along the winding roads and hairpin bends through the woods of Mottarone is a refreshing route, and you can also enjoy the view of Lake Orta.
Remaining on the shores of Lake Maggiore, we will continue our tour towards Verbania and the Castles of Cannero, where the road becomes more technical and enjoyable.
Crossing the Piaggio Valmara pass, you can reach Switzerland, enjoy a coffee in Locarno or Ascona, and return to Italy via the Varese side, which is wilder and greener.
The charm of Angera, Ispra, and the Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso, nestled in the rock overlooking the lake. We turn towards Campo dei Fiori Park, winding along gentle curves and scenic routes, until we reach Lake Varese.
Here, after a refreshing break, we head towards Como and then take the legendary Statale Regina road: a narrow, winding route offering spectacular views, historic villages, and period villas at every turn.
From Menaggio, we arrive at Sorico, the northernmost tip of the lake.
Detour: Belvedere di Pigra with its postcard view
FOOD AND WINE RECOMMENDATION
At Baita del Vikingo, you will feel right at home!
A very characteristic interior and a landscape that encompasses the entire upper Lario area.
Here, the air is fresher and the dishes are heartier, based on pizzoccheri, polenta taragna, game, and a good selection of wines from local vineyards.
Once you begin the descent along the Lecco shore, tunnels alternate with spectacular views of the lake. Possible itineraries from here:
We leave Lecco with Mount Resegone behind us, crossing the picturesque Franciacorta.
FOOD AND WINE RECOMMENDATION
You will find many alternatives, from wineries offering food and tastings to excellent farmhouses with a zero-kilometer menu, right up to Michelin-starred restaurants.
The wines offered by the region are nectars, paired with tastings of Grana Padano, Gorgonzola, Luganega, Casonsèi, Tinca al Forno, and other delicacies.
We will continue our tour towards Lake Iseo, which can be circumnavigated in a couple of hours. Accompanied by its waters, we will pass through tunnels carved into the rock and admire evocative places such as the Orrido di Castro. Warning: gas stations are very expensive!
We venture into Val Trompia to reach Valsabbia, an oasis of unspoiled nature. Then finally we arrive in Salò, on Italy's largest lake.
From here begins a breathtaking journey along the Strada della Forra. Considered by many to be one of the wonders of the world, it is narrow, damp, and carved into the living rock. On a motorcycle, it is an almost religious experience to feel the waterfall wet your visor.

We will travel north, briefly touching on Trentino, before descending to the enchanting Veneto coast. Here, the road becomes gentler, with rock faces giving way to olive trees and vineyards, until we reach beautiful Bardolino.
You choose the last stop, but dedicate it to admiring the sun as it sets over the lake, behind the hills. Think about all the different places our motorcycle tour in Lombardy has taken us, crossing regional and national borders.
FOOD AND WINE RECOMMENDATION
You will find typical dishes based on lake fish, such as bigoli con le sarde (pasta with sardines), or mountain cheeses and delicious desserts such as Torta Madernina and Fogazza.
The renowned wineries of the lake passionately recount the wine-making history of the area. From Ca' dei Frati, near the picturesque setting of Sirmione, to Cantina Zeni in Bardolino.
Average distance 600 km

On this itinerary, every bend tells a story, and your motorcycle will be your companion on an adventure that will take you through wild valleys, hairpin bends, and breathtaking views.
The Apennines between Tuscany, Liguria, and Emilia are a maze of asphalt that seems to have been designed by motorcyclists. It's a tough ride, but it leaves you with a smile on your face for months.
Remember that the Apennines are alive: keep an eye on the weather (it can change in 10 minutes) and, above all, pay attention to the gravel on the tightest bends.
From Piacenza, State Road 45 takes us south to Val Trebbia, through picturesque mountain scenery. We will pass through Bobbio on our way to Passo del Penice, enjoying tight bends and increasingly fresh air as we climb higher.
We descend towards Brallo for an unmissable stop: Recco focaccia!
FOOD AND WINE RECOMMENDATION
Take a trip to the coast, to Recco or Camogli.
You can enjoy a pleasant motorcycle ride to the sea to devour the delicious Ligurian focaccia.
Or enjoy the seafood specialties that this region has to offer.
A quick trip to the sea, then we slip into Lunigiana via the Tomarlo Pass and the Centocroci Pass, along almost alpine paths and high-altitude grasslands. We continue towards Piagnaro Castle (Pontremoli), which dominates the valley, and take the opportunity for a refreshing break.
Next stop: Passo della Cisa, the “sacred monster” of the Apennine passes, a playground for motorcyclists, where you can dance with your bike from curve to curve through the woods.

Panoramic stop at the small church of Madonna della Guardia (patron saint of motorcyclists), where a greeting is a must.
Last detour before returning home: Torrechiara Castle.
It is the perfect backdrop to end our motorcycle trip: a fairytale castle overlooking the vineyards of the Parma hills.

FOOD AND WINE RECOMMENDATION
The area is dotted with traditional, authentic taverns offering local specialties, from high-quality cured meats to delicious gnocchi and typical testaroli.
The people here are always friendly and will recommend the perfect wine for your needs.

An itinerary that will allow us to savor the soul of the Marche region, picturesque Umbria, and the unspoiled Tuscan Maremma.
This route combines the pleasure of technical driving with the wild beauty of rolling hills. Don't be afraid to get lost on the dirt roads, driving to some nice little places along the way where you can satisfy your craving for succulent home cooking.
Surrounded by the green and blue of Monte Conero, setting off on our motorbikes from Ancona, we will enjoy curves overlooking the sea, relying on the grip of the excellent asphalt.
We can stop to admire the view of crystal clear waters and enchanting cliffs, visit the bay of Portonovo and small villages such as Sirolo and Numana, pearls of the Adriatic.
FOOD AND WINE RECOMMENDATION
These are the territories of wines such as Verdicchio, Rosso Conero, and Lacrima di Morro d'Alba.
What's more, sampling local seafood specialties such as rustita is definitely worth a stop.
Continuing inland, you will encounter a succession of curves, history, and nature, thanks to the charming medieval villages steeped in culture and the typical liveliness of the Marche region.
This includes the magnificent Sibillini Mountains, the natural border between the two regions, one of the most beautiful motorcycle routes in Italy. Discover them in our article.
For a motorcycle vacation crossing Italy from east to west, we will reach Umbria via the central Apennines, on routes that are a true paradise for motorcyclists, rich in curves, endless views, and ancient walls.
Visiting Norcia, Spoleto, Assisi, Gubbio, and Perugia is a mystical experience, and we will relax surrounded by hills and olive groves near Lake Trasimeno.

FOOD AND WINE RECOMMENDATION
An unmissable and iconic stop: La Torta de la Maria...the best there is!
Where to taste the best Umbrian Torta al Testo, so good you'll want to lick your visor!
The area also offers many organic wines, enhanced by the lake climate.
A mention must be made of the Marmore Falls, further south. A breathtaking sight and a refreshing walk among the water features.
We will end our motorcycle vacation in Tuscany, in its wildest part: the Maremma Grossetana. The inland area and its dirt roads lead us through lush pine forests and rolling hills, discovering places with ancient charm: Pitigliano, Magliano, and the Terme di Saturnia.
Along the endless roads that lead us to the seaside, we will be accompanied by Maremma oxen, horses, and wild animals. All this is complemented by the beauty of the crystal clear sea and endless beaches of Principina, Marina di Alberese (home to the unspoiled Uccellina Park), and Talamone, until we reach the charming Argentario promontory.
The beautiful villages surrounded by sea, nature, and traditional aromas invite us to linger and enjoy the breathtaking views and amazing local cuisine.

FOOD AND WINE RECOMMENDATION
Between wine cellars, oil mills, and traditional trattorias, you'll always land on your feet: in Maremma, meat and fish are cooked divinely, with innate passion and according to tradition.
Here, excellent local wines provide the backdrop for typical, tasty dishes such as Tuscan crostini, stewed wild boar, delicious soups (ribollita, acquacotta) and the ever-present fresh fish.

However you visit it, Abruzzo offers an endless variety of landscapes and curves, enchanting you with every kilometer.
We travel along the Trabocchi Coast, admiring its sea, rich in charm and culture. We head inland, winding our way through nature, towards Majella National Park, where mountain trails with crisp air await us, before turning towards Campo Imperatore, on the Gran Sasso massif.
To visit the Trabocchi Coast by motorbike, you can start from Ortona (worth visiting) and ride down 50 kilometers of gentle curves between the coast and hills, until you can enjoy the sunset at the Punta Aderci Reserve, with its unforgettable cliffs overlooking the sea.
Trabocchi are spectacular structures dating back to the Phoenicians, used for fishing.
They stand out along the coastline, forming a succession of stilts in the middle of the sea, with long arms connected to the land by long piers.
Relax for a few days and lose yourself in this historic and natural enchantment of rare beauty.
FOOD AND WINE RECOMMENDATION
The quality of the raw materials and wines reflects the authenticity of the Abruzzo people.
Throughout the area, you will find typical restaurants where they cook fresh fish divinely.
You can eat in restaurants built from real trabocchi (fishing platforms) or enjoy the sunset from Vasto.
From the coast, heading towards Val di Sangro, the variety of landscapes offers fun for all driving styles. Vast spaces for relaxed driving and challenging climbs to reach villages such as Pizzoferrato, the terrace of Abruzzo, where you can enjoy indescribable views.
If you fancy winding roads and beautiful views, continue on to Villetta Barrea, immerse yourself in the tranquility and peace of the endless expanses of Passo Godi, then Lake Scanno and the evocative Sagittario Gorges Nature Reserve.
Continuing on, we can choose whether to complete the entire Majella Loop, which passes through places such as Sulmona and Passo Lanciano, or turn towards Campo Imperatore, passing through areas immersed in silence and transported by a sense of freedom that is even stronger here.
We will be captivated by the surreal atmosphere of these magical places and can also treat ourselves to an exciting off-road adventure. Watch out for grazing animals and particularly narrow sections.
Fun fact: a sign reminds us that the iconic western “They called him Trinity” was filmed right here on the Campo Imperatore plateau!
FOOD AND WINE RECOMMENDATION
Wine, grappa, sausages, steaks, salami, pecorino cheese spread for bruschetta...
All this awaits you at Ristoro Mucciante, in Castel del Monte.
But the real treat here is that you cook your own arrosticini on 3-meter-long grills!
